  • What are the best tickets at the Sambadrome?

The Sambadrome was designed to offer a great view of the spectacle to everyone. However, each type of ticket has its advantages.

For those who want to watch the parades comfortably, we generally recommend Frisa tickets. Frisas are assigned seats within small enclosures, very close to the parade track, with a privileged view of the parade. We also have the option of Covered Frisa, exclusively located in sector 7 row D, with padded seats, fans, and coverage, ideal for rainy days.

The grandstands are also a good option if you are looking for something economical, but keep in mind that there are no chairs in the grandstands, only large concrete steps, and only Sector 9 has assigned seating; in other sectors, if you want to choose your seat, we recommend arriving 2 hours before the first parade.

For those who want a numbered seat but don't want to pay too much for it, numbered chairs are a good option, just keep in mind that they are located in sector 12, at the end of the parade.

We recommend the Folia Tropical and Super Folia boxes for those who like to party because, in addition to the all-inclusive service, they guarantee exclusive shows by renowned Brazilian artists. Folia offers an open bar service, buffet, DJs, shows, and various attractions. Therefore, it is the most lively option.

The Maravilha Box, on the other hand, is highlighted as an exclusive and comfortable option, offering a complete experience with a privileged view, high-quality buffet, transfer service, and entertainment during the parade intervals.

  • Which side is better? Even or odd?

There is no better side in terms of the experience, as both sides offer a mirrored view. The Sambadrome is divided into even and odd sides.
Each has its characteristics that only impact the arrival and departure from the venue.
Therefore, what should affect your choice is how you want to access the Sambadrome.

Seats on the even side are closer to the Praça Onze subway station, about 300 meters away. It is a great side for those who want to take the subway to the Sambadrome.

The odd side is about 1.2 km from the Central subway station, and because it is farther away, the best option for those who prefer to go to the odd side of the Sambadrome is by taxi or transfer.

In order to preserve the auditory integrity of children, the Juvenile Court of Rio de Janeiro has determined that children under 5 years old are not allowed to enter the Sambadrome, even when accompanied by guardians and/or with a ticket. For minors between 5 and 16 years old, it is necessary to present identification documents along with the ticket, as well as the documents of the parents/legal guardians or the adult authorized by them.

  • Can I choose my seat at the Sambadrome?

It's not possible to choose specific seats, although the frisas, numbered chairs, and grandstand in sector 9 have assigned seating. However, when purchasing tickets in the same transaction, we ensure that people will be seated together, providing a more unified experience during the parades.

  • What is the difference between the parades of the Special Group, Access Group, and Champions?

The Access Group, which will parade on February 28th and March 1st, is like the second division of the carnival. These are the schools competing to reach the special group. They are traditional and beautiful schools, but they are simpler, and their parades are also, which is why the tickets are cheaper.

The Special Group, which will parade on March 2nd and 3rd, is the parade of the main samba schools of Rio. On these days of the special group, the best and most famous schools parade, with extravagant parades, large floats, and high-level costumes, which is why the tickets are more expensive.

The Champions Parade, which will take place on March 8th, brings together the champion samba school and the top five placed in the special group parade, celebrating the victory and closing the Rio Carnival parades.

  • Which is the best section?

The Sambadrome was designed to offer a great view of the spectacle to everyone from any sector.

Sectors 2 and 3 are close to the beginning of the parade, so it is possible to see the schools warming up before entering the Sambadrome.

Sectors 4 and 5 are between the beginning and the middle, with shorter waits between schools, and it's already possible to start seeing the formation of the parades on the avenue.

Sectors 6, 7, 8, and 9 are the most sought after as they are located in the middle of the Sambadrome and offer a more complete view of the parade. The wait between schools is a bit longer.

Sectors 10 and 11 are for those who want to feel the drummers up close, as they are in front and beside the drumming area. The wait time between schools is longer.

The sectors at the end, 12 and 13, provide the excitement of the participants crossing the finish line, but the interval between the passage of schools is even longer.

  • What is the best day?

We usually choose the day we want to attend based on the Samba Schools we support. The Carnival parades in Rio de Janeiro are divided into two main categories: Access Group and Special Group.

The samba schools in both groups are of a high level and have their own fame. In the Access Group, the schools aim to ascend to the Special Group next year, presenting simpler parades with more affordable tickets.
In the Special Group, Rio's main schools parade with extravagant productions, resulting in more expensive tickets.

After the Special Group parades, there is the Champions Parade, which brings together the champion school and the top five from the group, repeating the parades from previous days. The order of the parades is determined by drawing lots, making it difficult to choose the best day to attend.

    No. The costume is yours!

During Carnival, the Rio de Janeiro City Hall organizes a large operation in conjunction with the Military Police to intensify security in key areas of the city.

However, we recommend taking some precautions to avoid inconveniences:

    1. Avoid displaying valuable items in public and crowded places, opting to carry only the essentials.
    2. Always choose to purchase tickets and tour packages from official agencies.

These simple practices contribute to a more peaceful experience during Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

  • Can I go straight from the airport to the Sambadrome?

It's not possible to go directly from the airport to the Sambadrome because it's necessary to exchange your Voucher for the ticket at our Customer Service Center located at Hotel Atlântico Copacabana on Rua Siqueira Campos, 90. Access to the Sambadrome is only possible with the ticket in hand.

Travel Tips

  • Where should I stay in Rio?

Preferably choose neighborhoods in the South Zone, such as Copacabana, Leme, Ipanema, Leblon, Botafogo, Flamengo, among others. These neighborhoods are safer, easily accessible, with various transportation options to the entire city, and offer plenty of entertainment options for all ages. Other neighborhoods with plenty of accommodation options and well sought after are Downtown, Santa Teresa, and Barra da Tijuca.

Barra da Tijuca is distant from other tourist areas of Rio, but if you are staying near the subway, you can enjoy the good hotel infrastructure.

In Downtown, you will be close to the area of various popular parties and museums, as well as enjoying generally lower prices, just keep in mind that, as it is not a residential area, the neighborhood tends to be emptier at night.

Santa Teresa is a neighborhood atop a hill, with a charming atmosphere and spectacular views of the city, but transportation options are more restricted, and its steep streets and hills can be challenging for people with mobility difficulties.

  • What are the Carnival activities in Rio?

Rio de Janeiro is world-famous for its Carnival festivities, offering a variety of activities and events. Here are some options for what to do during Carnival in Rio de Janeiro:

    - Samba School Parades: The highlight of Rio's Carnival is the samba school parades at the Sambadrome. Schools compete in different categories, presenting huge floats, elaborate costumes, and choreographed performances.

    - Street Blocos: Thousands of revelers gather in different neighborhoods to participate in street blocos, which are carnival groups that parade through the streets playing music, dancing, and celebrating.

    - Carnival Balls: Various clubs and venues host Carnival balls, where people dress up in extravagant costumes and dance to the sound of carnival music.

    - Technical Rehearsals: Samba schools hold technical rehearsals at the Sambadrome before the official parades, allowing the public to get a preview of the performances.

It's worth noting that information may vary from year to year, and it's always good to check the specific schedule for the current year. Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is a unique celebration, known for its vibrant energy and contagious joy.

  • Do I need a visa for Brazil?

Before entering any foreign territory, you should check with your country's government whether only a passport is required or if a visa is necessary.

To find out if you need a visa to travel to Brazil, visit: https://www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/assuntos/portal-consular/vistos/informacoes-sobre-vistos-para-estrangeiros-viajarem-ao-brasil#voceprecisa

Brazil adopts a reciprocity policy regarding visas. This means that citizens of countries that require visas for Brazilian citizens will need a visa to travel to Brazil. According to Brazilian legislation, Brazil must reciprocally agree to grant visa waivers to nationals of another country, except in cases provided for in Decree 9,731/2019. Brazil has entered into visa waiver agreements with approximately 90 countries.

  • Is it safe to visit Rio during Carnival?

During Carnival, the City of Rio de Janeiro organizes a large operation together with the Military Police to avoid problems.

Anyway, as in any big city, there is always a small margin of insecurity, so just take basic precautions to avoid bad times.

Try not to go out with valuables in public and busy places, always take the essentials. Avoid traveling with a lot of money and/or important documents (ID, passport, etc.). We do not recommend walking down the street using your cell phone or camera.

Always buy tickets and tours at official agencies. We also recommend not buying things from street vendors with a credit card, try to pay in cash.

  • Where is the gay zone during Carnival?

In Rio de Janeiro, there isn't a specific "gay zone"; LGBTQIA+ revelers are welcome everywhere the festivities take place as the celebration is very open and inclusive throughout the city. However, some neighborhoods and events are known to attract more of this community, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.

Locations like the neighborhoods of Copacabana and Ipanema are often popular meeting points for the LGBTQIA+ community during Carnival, with many street blocos and parties happening in the area.

Since Carnival is a popular event, it's always a good idea to check the official schedule, seek local recommendations, and be aware of specific activities that may occur in different neighborhoods during this time.
