The Mangueira Ball at the Scala
This Ball is dedicated to Mangueira, the oldest samba school of Rio de Janeiro.
In addition to the colorful and entertaining Samba parades, the Rio Carnival boasts a number of Carnival Balls. Six of these are located at the Scala Night Club in Downtown (new address). The Scala has been holding their thematic balls for the last 39 years and is gaining popularity every year. Attending at least one of them is a must for an authentic Carnival experience. The Mangueira Ball is a delightful addition to the Scala line up, this year it is on Saturday March 2nd 2019.
The Mangueira Samba School
The Mangueira Samba School is the oldest existing Samba School with their origins dating back to the early 1920’s. The school, which is essentially a dance troupe, have a group of drummers who play the intoxicating Samba beats, a troupe of energetic and dynamic dancers who groove vivaciously to their drummers’ beats and a flag bearer along with her escort. The entire troupe attends the Mangueira Ball at the Scala.
So if you would like to see authentic Samba right in front of your eyes in its most natural setting, this is the ball for you. It is a fantastic opportunity to see the dancers in action moving to the hip twitching beats of the Samba. And while you’re at it, you just might find yourself doing the Samba with an exotic stranger on the Scala dance floor.
